Walking Away Through The Rice Fields

In Collaboration with Hoàng Thị Mai Hương

Here my mother narrates a memory she has of her mother leaving her after my mother and her siblings were evacuated to Nam Dinh, a Vietnamese province on the outskirts of the Hanoi, at the height of the American war in Vietnam. The video samples footage of Saigon and Hanoi during wartime, as well as shots of my own feet trying to recreate the memory of my grandmother walking away. This centers around a singular memory, though I hope it is able to express a message about generational divide, may it be a result of war trauma or cultural change.
